Cancún Weather in February

February keeps Cancún in its dry-season sweet spot: highs climb slightly to 79.3°F, humidity drops to 73% (the lowest reading of the year), and rain days fall to just 8 for the month, the driest stretch on the calendar alongside March and April.

Nights are still on the cool side for the tropics, averaging 72.6°F, which makes February a comfortable month for exploring ruins or walking around downtown Cancún without the oppressive humidity that arrives by summer.

Sea temperature eases slightly to 80.6°F from January's 81.1°F, still entirely swimmable, just at the lowest point of its annual cycle before it starts climbing again into spring. Diving and snorkeling visibility remains excellent, benefiting from the same dry, calm conditions as January.

February shares the winter high-season crowd and pricing with January, plus it picks up Presidents' Day week traffic from US travelers and the run-up to spring break. Mid-February to early March is a reasonable window to book before spring break rates kick in.

No hurricane activity has been recorded in February in the historical track record for this coast, like January, it's outside the practical risk window entirely.

Sargassum levels are typically still low in February, though this varies year to year depending on Atlantic currents; if it's building, resorts on the hotel zone's northern beaches (Playa Delfines area southward) tend to see it worse than Isla Mujeres or Puerto Morelos.

This is a strong month for the Chichen Itza day trip and for exploring cenotes around Valladolid, since dry roads and mild air make the full-day itinerary far more comfortable than the muggy summer version of the same trip. It's also excellent timing for a Cozumel dive trip if underwater visibility is a priority.

Some years bring Carnival-adjacent festivities to Mexican Caribbean towns in February, tied to the lead-up to Lent, though Cancún's own celebrations are modest compared to Mexico's bigger Carnival cities like Veracruz or Mazatlán, worth checking local listings rather than planning a trip around it specifically.

Sailfish season, which runs roughly December through March, is in full swing in February, charter boats out of the hotel zone marina report some of the year's most consistent action, and the calm seas make for a comfortable day on the water even for less experienced anglers.

Hotel zone rates remain at winter-peak levels through February; travelers chasing value tend to book further out (three to six months ahead is typical for good rates) or look at El Centro and Isla Mujeres for meaningfully lower lodging and food costs without giving up easy beach access.

Against January, February trades a slightly warmer daytime high for the same low humidity and rain, genuinely a coin flip between the two if hurricane risk and sargassum are your only concerns, with February having a very marginal edge on dryness.

Pack the same way as January, light daywear, sun protection, and a layer for evenings, but expect slightly warmer, drier air than the start of the year.
