Cancún Weather in April

April keeps the dry-season weather going, highs of 83.2°F, just 6.2 rain days, and humidity holding at 74%, while spring break winds down by the second week, leaving a genuinely pleasant window of good weather and thinner crowds.

This is arguably Cancún's best all-around month: dry-season conditions without January's cooler nights, without summer's humidity, and without spring break's chaos once the first week or two passes.

The sea warms noticeably to 82.1°F, making for very comfortable swimming, snorkeling and diving conditions on the reef systems off the hotel zone and nearby Isla Mujeres. This is one of the last months before whale shark season starts, so if you want dry-season conditions and don't need to see whale sharks specifically, it's a strong pick.

Rates typically soften after spring break ends, making mid-to-late April one of the better value windows of the entire year for the quality of weather you get.

Hurricane season is still two months out, and April has no recorded tropical storm or hurricane activity historically, the safest weather window continues.

Sargassum can start to appear on some beaches by late April in heavier years, though it's typically still much less than the peak summer months bring.

Semana Santa (Holy Week, the week before Easter) often falls in April and is a major domestic Mexican travel holiday, expect a secondary crowd surge around that specific week from Mexican families, distinct from the US-driven spring break crowd earlier in March.

This remains an excellent month for Chichen Itza, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel day trips, with dry roads and calm seas holding from the earlier dry-season months. It's also a good window for cenote day trips near Valladolid, Ik Kil and Cristalino are popular, comfortable options before the midsummer heat sets in.

With spring break over, hotel zone rates ease noticeably and availability opens up; this is a good month to book a beachfront hotel zone room without either the January-March premium or the wet-season uncertainty that starts creeping in by May.

Against May, April is meaningfully drier, May's rain days roughly double, so if avoiding rain matters more than catching the start of whale shark season, April is the better bet.

Pack for genuinely warm days now, daytime highs in the low-80s feel noticeably hotter than the winter months, plus reef-safe sunscreen and a hat if you're spending long days on the water.
